Queer Premises for You: April-May 2025
A freedom fighter, once an enslaved person, dreams of buying ships to attack slaving vessels and free the enslaved people within, but doesn't have the money for it. Then he is approached by a djinni, an intersex man, with riches beyond knowing. The djinni will supply the ships, and whatever else is necessary for his plans—for a price. The djinni wants human citizenship so he can stand in court against the enslavement of other djinn, and the only way he can get it is through marriage with a human. The freedom fighter is wary of this idea, but his longing for his dream is so great that he decides to take the plunge…
Two women, demon conjurers, are lovers—one Japanese American and one Russian. They met at the Institute of Demonology in Leningrad and secretly made plans to live together in the United States. But World War II throws off their plans, as they are both pressed into performing demonology for their countries—trapping demons in airplanes and tanks to make them more destructive. As the Russian conjurer finds herself on the front lines and the Japanese American conjurer finds herself the only member of her family not interned in camps, they are both wondering—even if they do survive, will they still be the same women who fell in love in Leningrad?
